How can I teach my infant to read?
To teach reading is to teach children to look carefully at the specific formation of letters (words). If the child’s interest can be captured while they are a very young infant, they will automatically pay close attention and notice the little differences. Some people suggest that you use words like elephant and cat so the children can recognize the shape of the word. I would respectfully disagree with this as they are not giving children any credit for detecting slight differences between say hat and rat or hat and hot. Trust me, it does not make things easier for the child, if you teach such an inferior method.
When the young child is exposed to words while hearing the adult read each one to them, they quickly discern the grammar rules and understand the language. NO explanation is needed. Your child could learn to speak perfect Chinese if they were to hear it all the time from birth. No one tells them it is important to learn language or that they better sit up, listen or get with it. No tests are ever given to confirm the infants are learning as time passes. And yet they do learn. They just hear the adult speak the language and eventually the child will speak it also.
